‘Name Mapusa’s Ravindra Bhavan hall after Alfred Rose’
Panaji: The state government must consider naming a hall or auditorium at the proposed new Ravindra Bhavan at Mapusa, after tiatrist Alfred Rose, senior artistes said at a function in Panaji, on Wednesday.
“It is a request to the government that the main auditorium at the Mapusa Ravindra Bhavan be named after Alfred Rose,” said Tomazinho Cardozo. He was speaking at the book launch of ‘Alfred Rose – the King of Melody’ written by Isidore Dantas and published by the art and culture department.
Speaking on the platform, Dantas also concurred the same request in the presence of miniser for art and culture Govind Gaude.
The state government had last month announced that it would construct a Ravindra Bhavan in Mapusa on land measuring 40,000 sqm, with a seating capacity of the auditorium around 1,000 seats.
Mapusa MLA Joshua Dsouza, who was the guest of honour, said that he would try his best to name the hall after the late tiatrist and iconic singer whose songs he grew up with.
Gaude said, “Whatever demands have been raised on this platform, we will see to it that when the time comes, they’re taken into consideration and it bears fruit.”
He congratulated Dantas for the research on Alfred Rose and said that now people would know how great the late melody king was, much more than what people thought he was.
Cardozo said Alfred Rose’s contribution to Konkani is unparallel and was the first to come up with many things including Konkani musical shows, to bring out a Konkani cassette.
He further requested that the book, which has been written in Konkani, be translated into English by the directorate of art and culture to further its reach among non-Konkani speaking readers.
Rita Rose, a noted tiatrist and wife of Alfred, also spoke.
