NIO director gets NASI fellowship
Panaji: For his contribution towards the understanding of particle-water interaction and submarine groundwater discharge, Sunil Kumar Singh, director of the Goa-based National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), has been elected as a fellow of the National Academy of Science, India (NASI).
NASI, the oldest science academy of the country, is recognised as a professional body by the department of science and technology.

It is also recognised as a scientific and industrial research organisation by the department of scientific and industrial research.
Singh will be awarded the fellowship during the 89th annual session of NASI and its symposium on ‘science and technology-based entrepreneurship development’ in December. The event will be held at ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad. With his work, Singh addressed fundamental issues related to the internal sources, cycling and sinks of the chemical elements iron, aluminium and zinc. His researches are reported to have widened the understanding on the evolution of Himalayas and the biogeochemistry of the Indian Ocean.
