PANAJI: As restoration of the water pipeline at Curti nears its final stage, the public works department (PWD) expects to restore supply to Panaji and surrounding areas by late Tuesday evening.
However, consumers in and around Old Goa, including Cumbharjua, will have to face the crisis for one more day.
A new pipe is being laid as the earlier one was washed away by rain on Wednesday.
PWD executive engineer Nivruti Parsekar, responsible for the water supply to Ponda and Tiswadi talukas, said they are working tirelessly to restore the pipelines, but laying of two pipelines cannot be taken up. The work on the 750mm line will be taken up immediately after the completion of laying the broader 900mm one, he said.
This work may be completed by Tuesday evening and consumers in Panaji, Taleigao, St Cruz and St Andre, including Bambolim medical and dental complexes and defence establishments, might get supply by late evening.
The supply to Cumbharjua constituency, including Old Goa, Tivrem-Orgao, Betki-Khandola, Cumbharjua and St Estevam panchayat areas may be restored on or after Wednesday.
