Panaji-Seychelles twinning deal today

Panaji-Seychelles twinning deal today
PANAJI: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) will sign a twinning agreement with Victoria, the capital of Seychelles, in New Delhi, on Saturday. The move is aimed at adopting the best existing practices in both cities.
Urban development minister Francis D’Souza, said the agreement will be signed in the presence of Seychelles president Danny Faur. Faur is expected to visit Goa on Sunday.
D’Souza said the proposal was moved by the Union ministry external affairs (MEA) to facilitate the two cities implement the best available systems in civic management.
The agreement is expected to strengthen commercial and cultural ties between the two cities, he said.
A delegation from Goa will subsequently visit Victoria to understand the practices there, while a team from the island country, which lies east of mainland Africa, will travel to Goa for the same purpose.
Despite tall claims, however, citizens say that the city fathers have failed to address several issues plaguing Panaji. “While the main problem has been paucity of parking spaces, it is also a shame that the CCP has not been able to stop pollution of the St Inez creek, which was a beautiful spot three decades ago,” a former councillor said. “Dwellers along the creek, as well as others, continue to dump waste into it.”
