PANAJI: The stalemate over the regularisation of
para teachers continues, despite the government’s assurance to accommodate them from the next academic year.
On Thursday, chief minister
Manohar Parrikar held a meeting with the director of education to discuss the issue related to para teachers. It was decided to absorb the teachers on regular posts from the next academic year, subject to certain conditions, and within the framework of the Right To Education Act.
This decision to accommodate the teachers will be applicable to those who join duties on or before November 25 this year, as per directions issued by the education department, a statement issued by the department of information and publicity on Thursday stated.
However, the para teachers were dissatisfied with this assurance, and continued their protest outside the secretariat well into the night.
Para teacher Smita Dessai told TOI that they will continue their protest for regularization and appropriate pay scale from this academic year onwards, including in service training.
“We want the final settlement this year itself. We have been given many promises in the past, she said, adding that that the chief minister as well as the
BJP president
Vinay Tendulkar promised them regularization in the past, with the BJP also mentioning the issue in their manifesto.
