Goa: Rains on a downtrend after August mayhem
DONE AND DUSTED: With 116 inches, the seasonal quota is complete
PANAJI: Rainfall activity in the state is likely to be light or moderate over the next three days, according to the India meteorological department (IMD), Panaji.
“A couple of centres may receive moderate rainfall in higher amounts,” IMD Panaji director Krishnamurty Padgalwar said on Sunday.
The reason for the abating rain is that the low pressure area over the central parts of Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand is not expected to induce much precipitation.

The last 24-hour period till Sunday morning saw an average of only 12mm rainfall in the state. It was the least active rainfall period this month.
During the last 24 hours, Canacona recorded the highest rainfall of 32.2mm, Quepem 25.6mm and Mapusa 11.2mm. All other centres received less than 5mm while figures for Margao and Valpoi were unavailable.
On Sunday, the seasonal total touched 3,038.7mm (119.6 inches). The amount of rainfall considered normal at this state is 2,476.4mm (97.4 inches).
After a deficit of 14% at the end of June, the surplus mounted to 23% on Sunday.
Heavy monsoon activity in the past fortnight has already completed the seasonal quota of 116 inches, with 45 days to spare.
The wettest spell of 143mm (the state average) was recorded on the morning of Independence day, August 15.
The heavy rainfall during the last couple of weeks caused a lot of damage to agriculture and property. The season has witnessed incessant rain spells during July and August. The August quota of 702.3mm rainfall was already achieved by mid-August.
