PANAJI: Visually impaired from the National Association for the Blind (NAB) will share ramp space with professionals in the fashion world at a unique fashion show on November 24.
The second edition of Runway Inspiration will see youth, both partially blind as well as totally blind, confidently carry themselves in designer wear in front of a large audience.
Instead of a T shape ramp, the girls will walk on a red carpet between the audience.
Curchorem-based fashion entrepreneur Anusha Shaikh, who conceptionalised the show for a cause, said this will help the audience establish a better emotional connect with the girls and put themselves in their shoes.
The girls are receiving sessions on grooming and basic hygiene. Shaikh is also training them to walk the ramp confidently, and said she was taken aback by the girls’ enthusiasm to walk the ramp in high heels.
While twelve visually impaired will take centre stage in easy to wear semi formals in the first round of the fashion show, ten upcoming models, including college students, will walk the ramp in Indo-western outfits with a traditional twist in the second round. This will be followed by a third round comprising established models. The last sequence shall be the traditional Indian outfits, including the bridal range.

The show will end with the visually impaired girls walking with celebrity bloggers, photographers, fashion influencers and others from the fashion world. “Bringing everyone together on one evening will open up avenues and opportunities to the girls should they be interested in entering the industry,” Shaikh said.
Power minister Nilesh Cabral told reporters that despite financial implications, Goa Tourism Development Coporation (GTDC) decided to support the unique fashion show as it is being held for a greater cause.
The event will be held on November 24, at Double Tree by Hilton, Kadamba Plateau.
