Women's U-19 one-day: Tejashwini shines in Goa's big win over Tamil Nadu
Margao: Captain Tejashwini Duragad led from the front as Goa remained undefeated in the Women's U-19 one-day cricket tournament.
The 19-year-old took four wickets for 19 runs and then anchored Goa’s chase to score 45 as the hosts registered a five-wicket win over Tamil Nadu at Margao Cricket Club on Saturday.
With today's performance, Tejashwini has claimed 12 wickets so far in the tournament. Goa had earlier defeated Tripura, Vidarbha and Gujarat.
Tamil Nadu won the toss and chose to bat.
After getting a good start, Tamil Nadu faltered and were bundled out for 99 in 45.5 overs. Openers A Eloksi and C Shushanthika put up 44 runs in 16 overs. The hosts earned the breakthrough when Purvaja Verlekar ran out Shushanthika. Soon, Diksha Gawde got rid of Eloksi.
That's when Tejashwini stepped up and put Tamil Nadu under pressure with her leg-spin. She and Savali Kolambkar hunted in pair to take six wickets between them before Diksha returned to finish the Tamil Nadu inning.
Chasing a modest target, Goa openers Purvaja and Shindiya Naik were both sent to the pavilion inside third over. However, Tejashwini along with Disha and Tanaya Malik struck crucial partnerships to ensure Goa tasted victory. By the time Tejashwini was trapped in front of the wicket by MS Aishwarya, Goa were within touching distance of another win.

At Sanguem ground, Odisha continued their winning streak with a 198-run hammering of Jammu & Kashmir. Batting first, Odisha made 289-6. Captain Indrani Chhatria scored 51 off 75 balls, while Poonam Nayak (45) and Sweet Beura (44) were other significant scorers.
In reply, Jammu and Kashmir were bundled out for 91 runs in 32.3 overs. Rani Kumari Prasad did most of the damage with figures of 3-13.
Brief scores: Tamil Nadu 99 in 45.5 overs (C Shushanthika 22, A Eloksi 21; Tejashwini Duragad 4-19) lost to Goa 100-5 in 30.1 overs (Tejashwini 45, Tanaya Naik 20); Odisha 289-6 (Indrani Chhatria 51, Poonam Nayak 45, Sweet Beura 44) bt Jammu & Kashmir 91 in 32.3 overs (Rani Kumari Prasad 3-13)
