18 test positive in Faridabad, four cases in Gurugram

Faridabad recorded the highest single-day spike with 18 Covid-19 cases on Thursday, according to the health department.

GURUGRAM: Faridabad recorded the highest single-day spike with 18 Covid-19 cases on Thursday, according to the health department.
With this, the total number of Covid cases has gone up to 137 in the district.

Among those who tested positive include a one-year-old child and a police officer in Sector 17 station. A 41-year-old housewife from Sector 10 also tested positive. Since one of her family members is a vegetable seller, a health department official said she might have contracted the infection from him.
His sample is also sent for testing.
Three family members, including wife and two daughters of a patient from Sector 62, who tested positive and subsequently admitted to hospital on May 10, also tested positive. Three more people of SGM Nagar, who had attended a Tablighi Jamaat event in Maharashtra’s Sangli, were also tested positive.
A resident of NIT-5 with a history of visit to a private hospital in Delhi for her daughter’s treatment also started showing symptoms and tested positive. However, the resident is in Aligarh at present and has been advised by the health department to start treatment there only.

A 17-year-old girl from Shiv Sharda Colony in Ballabgarh has contracted the disease. A one-year-old child from Adarsh Colony in NIT area also has Covid-19. A 50-year-old man, who is a resident of NIT-1 and transports vegetables from Dabua sabzi mandi was tested positive.
Two cases were reported from Milhard Colony as a 32-year-old man and 25-year-old woman tested positive on Thursday. They are the contacts of a grocery store owner who was tested positive on May 11.
A 46-year-old man, who has a history of visit to Ahmedabad from May 9 to May 11, also tested positive.
“Taking into account the increasing number of Covid-19 cases reported from mandis, we have decided to shut mandis for four days so that we can screen all vendors, sellers and workers. We will also sanitise vegetable markets. There is a spurt in Covid cases of mandis, and that’s why we have decided to close mandis from May 16 to May 19,” Faridabad deputy commissioner Yashpal Yadav told TOI.
Four new cases in Gurugram
On Thursday, four more people were tested positive for Covid-19 in Gurugram. Now, the district’s tally is 169. Out of the four new cases, one patient is a vegetable wholesaler from Azadpur mandi in Delhi, a hotspot. Two residents are from Palam Vihar while the remaining patient is a resident of Sushant Lok-3.
Dr Sudha Garg, district surveillance officer, said, “We will increase containment zones in Gurugram after analysing the trend.”The health department is tracing the contacts of these cases. “We will be testing every vegetable seller. We have already prepared a list of vegetable hawkers and are tracing their contacts as we are getting more cases with mandi links,” Dr Garg added.
