Gurgaon: An associate professor of a government college in Faridabad, accused of sexually exploiting college students, failed to get relief from court on Tuesday.
The professor, who is on the run, had applied for anticipatory bail before additional sessions judge of Faridabad court, Jagbhushan Gupta. The next date of hearing is scheduled for May 30, but the court has not restrained police from arresting the accused.
He could get arrested any time, said police.
The scandal was unearthed in the government college last week, when a student filed a police complaint and submitted an audio-visual recording, alleging that three college staffers, including the associate professor, were sexually abusing girls students by promising them better grades in exams.
In the recording, the accused lab assistant can be heard asking the girl student to accompany him to a hotel in exchange of better grades. Following this, peon Vikram and lab assistant Jagdev were arrested.
During their interrogation, the lab assistant revealed that several girls were promised better grades in practical exams in lieu of sexual favours by senior college staff, including the accused associate professor.
On the basis of his statement, a section on rape was added to the FIR. Police has now also added sections of the SC/ST Act to the FIR. The case against the college staff was registered at women’s police station in Sector 16, under section 354 (outraging modesty), 376 (rape), 201 (destroying evidence), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and Section 18 of the SC/ST Act.
It has also come to light that some students may have been threatened by the accused, who even tried to tamper with evidence.
