Covid-19: Faridabad records yet another 1-day spike, cases 11

GURUGRAM: Faridabad recorded the highest single-day spike of 11 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. All the 11 cases are primary and secondary contacts of Covid-19 patients. With this, the total number of cases has increased to 117 in the district.
Of the 11, six are the primary contacts of a vegetable seller who had visited Azadpur mandi and tested positive for Covid-19 on May 9. All six of them are from Adarsh Nagar in Ballabgarh.

Four positive cases are contacts of a vegetable seller in Mujessar Sabzi Mandi, who was found positive on May 8. These four are living in Auto Pin Jhuggi and Mujessar area. His contacts include his mother, 72-year-old father, seven-year-old niece and a 20-year-old man who had bought vegetables from him. A 29-year-old nephew of a person from Sector 62, who was admitted to hospital on May 10, was also tested positive on Tuesday.
“Faridabad police had given us a list of 35 to 40 people with connections with Delhi’s Azadpur mandi. One person among them had tested positive on May 9, while six out of 11 cases tested positive on Tuesday are his contacts,” said Dr Ram Bhagat, deputy civil surgeon, Faridabad.
Moreover, an official said the authorities have got them all admitted to ESIC Medical College and Hospital and are in the process of tracing contacts of those tested positive on Tuesday. Out of the 117 tested positive, 57 have been discharged from hospital.
The health department has sent 5,671 samples, of which 5,325 have turned out to be negative while reports of 229 samples are still awaited. As many as 773 contacts of Covid-19 patients have been identified and quarantined in the district. The district has many patients with Azadpur mandi links.
Also, 6,348 people in the district have been put in isolation at homes. Around 1,685 people have completed a surveillance period of 28 days.
