Gurgaon to get Haryana’s first clean street food market

Come August, Gurgaon will be home to the first clean street food market in the state. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has partnered with Gurgaon’s local administration to set this market up in Sector 38. The market, to be built like an open-air food court, will have about a hundred vendors wearing identical uniforms and name tags. The whole market will be cleaned and the vendors will also be trained in how to deal with the customers in a polite and friendly manner.All vendors will wear gloves and the way the food is prepared will be monitored by the FSSAI.
The agency says they will ensure the market is up to the standards of safety and hygiene laid down by them. KK Sharma, the nodal officer for the project, tells us, “We have completed the survey and pre-audit for the market and even trained a hundred vendors in public dealing. We had selected two places for the markets- one opposite Medanta in Sector 38 and the other in Sushant Lok but due to non-cooperation from the traders in Sushant Lok, we are only going ahead with the one in Sector 38 for now.” Interestingly, the Gurgaon city administration had earmarked this market in Sector 38 as a model street food zone in 2015 but the project never took off. This clean street food zone is expected to be operational in two months. The authorities will then start looking for another location as well.
