HISAR: Police have registered a case against a man for allegedly pushing his wife into a canal when she was taking a selfie near Sandalana village in Hisar district.
Passersby rescued the woman. A case of attempt to murder, under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code, has been registered against Amit Sharma, a resident of Om Nagar in Jind town, on a complaint by his wife Poonam, who hails from Mubarakpur in Delhi.
In her complaint to the police, Poonam said she got married to Amit on January 18, 2018.
On Tuesday, she went to have a glimpse of the Banbhori temple with her husband, she said. “After visiting the temple at 9 am, when we reached Sandalana village near the big canal, my husband stopped his motorcycle to capture a selfie. When I was standing near the canal and taking a selfie, my husband pushed me into the canal and after that he did not even try to save me,” she alleged.
Poonam alleged that she drifted in the water for about 150 metres and then some persons rescued her. After this, the residents of Sandalana came to the spot, called her husband and then sent her home with him, she said.
She said she informed her parents about the incident and they came to Jind after which they informed the police. Police said they had started an investigation, but were yet to arrest the accused.
