HISAR: Mountaineer Anita Kundu of Hisar scaled Aconcagua, the highest peak of South America, and hoisted the Tricolour on the summit on Wednesday morning. Anita has now scaled the highest peaks in six continents as part of her seven-summit campaign.
Anita's family members said she informed them of her latest achievement using a satellite phone. They said only two out of eight Indians could reach the peak top, the other being Vipin from Uttar Pradesh.
She faced dangers of extreme cold, lack of oxygen and icy winds, but did not lose courage and kept her spirits high to scale the peak, her family members said.
When her father died, Anita was only 13 years old but she braved the odds to pursue her passion of climbing the highest mountains of the world, her family members said.
Her latest achievement also made residents of her native village, Faridpur in Hisar district, happy.
Village residents distributed sweets and congratulated her family. Haryana labour and empowerment minister Anup Dhanak congratulated Anita and wished her a bright future.
