AMBALA: A major fire broke out at a mattress factory on Thursday morning near Kakru village on Chandigarh-Ambala Road in Haryana which burned the entire establishment into ashes, resulting in a huge loss for the owners.
The fire was doused after a struggle of six hours with the help of 11 fire brigades, said the fire department officials.
As per the sources, Wincraft Foam Industry was established in around one acre of area in Kakru village and the power supply was cut in the factory from 2.30am to 6.00am on Thursday.
On early Thursday morning, after electricity supply started, a short circuit was witnessed by labourers on the rooftop of the factory and within no time it caught fire. The labourers at the factory informed owner Vinay Aggarwal who lives in Chandigarh. Sources said after the fire started spreading, some drums of chemical kept inside the factory burst, further intensifying the situation.
Sukriti Aggarwal, owner of factory, said, “The factory was fully insured and at the moment of incident there were only two labourers present and they are safe. The entire establishment has been gutted while some important documents have been saved with the help of firemen. The insurance surveyors will calculate the exact loss.”
Baldev Nagar SHO inspector Subhash said, “Labourers said that the fire has been caused due to some electric short circuit. Nobody is hurt in this incident, and so far, we have received no complaint from the factory owner. Samples have been collected from the spot.”
