GURUGRAM: A speeding SUV crashed into a Skoda, then hit a cab and mini-truck while trying to escape and ran over the foot of a man near the traffic signal at Gwal Pahari village on the Gurgaon-Faridabad road on Friday evening.
No written complaint had been lodged till late on Saturday evening. The driver of the SUV, who was allegedly drunk, is yet to be arrested.
Karandeep Malik, a Faridabad resident who was returning home in his office cab, posted a picture of the SUV on the police’s official Twitter handle.
Though an FIR is yet to be registered, police assured of swift action in a reply to the tweet. “A drunk XUV driver hit 3 cars and 2 people got injured on Gurgaon-Faridabad road near Gwal Pahari red light. I have registered complaint too. Request you to take strict action,” he wrote. Malik also tagged the chief minister’s office and Haryana police.
Malik’s face hit the dashboard of the cab he was in when the driver had to press the emergency brakes. The SUV ahead of him had just hit a Skoda from behind and come to a halt. According to Malik, who works with a private firm, the SUV driver steered his vehicle and hit another cab in an attempt to escape. The driver, however, managed to flee.
The SUV was given a chase by Malik’s car and the cab that it had hit while trying to escape. The errant driver stopped his vehicle about a kilometre away. As the cab driver came out of his vehicle and knocked on the window the SUV, the errant driver stepped on the accelerator. This time, the SUV not only went over the foot of the cab driver but also hit a mini-truck in a bid to flee.
“After hitting the Skoda and the cab, the SUV started speeding towards Faridabad. We chased it to a kilometre away and forced it to stop. But it escaped this time too, and in the process, went over the foot of a driver and hit a mini truck. I immediately dialled 100 and informed the police control room. Had they taken prompt action, the SUV could have been nabbed at the toll plaza ahead,” Malik said.
The SHO of the local police station said they were still gathering information because a complaint is yet to be lodged. “We have no information about any accident that happened on the Faridabad road yet. We need a written complaint. If we get a complaint, we will take action according to law without any delay,” said Suresh Kumar, the SHO of DLF phase-I police station.
