GUWAHATI:
Arunachal Pradesh police on Monday registered a case against a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator of the state for allegedly raping a married doctor on October 12 night in a hotel.
Itanagar Capital Complex superintendent of police
Tumme Amo told media that the case was registered based on the FIR filed by the woman on Sunday that BJP legislator from Bameng constituency
Goruk Pordung allegedly raped her.
“The lady said in her FIR she had gone on her own to the hotel to meet the MLA. That is why we took time to register the case, because we had to ascertain whether it was a
rape or a consensual act,” said Amo.
The SP added, “The MLA has also filed a counter FIR saying that the woman had met him several times in the past and he has used the word seduced.”
The MLA has denied the allegation and described it as “politically motivated” to tarnish his reputation. He said that he wants a “thorough investigation”.
