ITANAGAR: The state government will reconstruct and refurbish all the infrastructure of schools, hospitals and all government office buildings across the state which were constructed before 1987, when Arunachal had been an Union territory.
“All the old Assam type buildings constructed during UT days that have outlived their usefulness will be reconstructed in a phase-wise manner across the state,” chief minister Pema Khandu informed during a review meeting at Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district on Wednesday.

The meeting was held with heads of departments, government officers and officials to review the implementation of all important flagships programmes of the state and the Centre, a CMO release informed here on Thursday.
“However, challenging the task may be, the mission to phase out all such buildings will be completed,” Khandu said. The chief minister appealed to government officers to begin making corrective steps to end the rule of muscle power and money power. “Today’s youth are frustrated with the ways things are in the government and want to see change,” Khandu said, adding that the onus is on people who are in positions to bring a change and to give back to society.
Khandu said politicians are only policy-makers and that real ground-level implementation of the government’s programmes and policies has to be executed by government officers and hence they have a great responsibility.
The chief minister added that he is in constant touch with the public through social media, SMS and WhatsApp and receives information through them about the lack of sincerity on the part of government officers and their regular absenteeism from office.
