Assam Covid-19 cases near 2,000 after 158 test positive

GUWAHATI: Assam's Covid-19 positive case count inched closer to the 2,000-mark after 158 fresh cases reported on Thursday took the overnight total to 1,988. The recovery count also went up with 29 fresh discharges, taking the total number to 442.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "We are prepared to take in 5,000 positive patients. The total count is rising after two special trains arrived from Mumbai carrying migrant workers and students of a madrassa.
There have been a lot of positive cases in these two trains."
Since May 25, the daily positive count has been averaging at a little over 141, with the highest spike of 269 on Wednesday during this period.
