SAMBALPUR: The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach) has started preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for the renovation of Assamese literary icon Lakshminath Bezbaroa's house here.
"We are hoping to complete the DPR within two weeks. The state government has set aside Rs 50 lakh for the renovation. We will begin work on the renovation of the house with these funds after the government approves the DPR," Deepak Panda, member of the Sambalpur chapter of Intach, said.
Bezbaroa, who came here in 1917, lived in the city for 20 years.
The building, which was to be demolished to make way for the development of rotary junction at the Nelson Mandela Chowk, was one of two the writer had in the city.
He used one as a residence and the other as an office. Intach experts visited the site recently and assessed the condition of the houses. The office building was found to be in worse shape and is the one the DPR is being prepared on.
"We will propose a cultural exchange centre at Bezbaroa's house, where his books, photographs and various memorabilia from his time in Odisha and Assam can be kept," Panda, who is also the convener of the Bezbaroa Smruti Committee, said.
