GUWAHATI: Chemistry recorded the highest cutoff percentage among all BSc major courses in Cotton University (CU), where the 2-day-long undergraduate admissions in science concluded on Wednesday.
At 90.66, chemistry recorded highest cutoff percentage in the general category at CU, followed by physics and zoology, where the cutoffs stood at 89.33% and 87.66% respectively.

While the cutoff stood at 87.33% in mathematics major, it was 85.33% in botany.
Altogether 485 seats in BSc major courses were filled up during the two-day-long marathon admissions at the CU here that began on Tuesday morning. Admission to BA major courses will be held at the leading state university on Thursday and Friday.
On the other hand, B Borooah College, a leading city college, concluded its two-day-long BA admission on Wednesday.
In the day shift admission for BA courses held at B Borooah College on Tuesday, the cutoff was 85% for the general category students. On Wednesday, admission was held for afternoon shift BA courses in the college, where the cutoff came down to 80.5 percent for general category students.
B Borooah College principal Satyendra Nath Barman said based on preference and merit of the students, the allotment of major courses for various subjects will be done at a later stage.

Cotton University academic registrar Sanjay Dutta said advancing the admission schedule in the university this year has led to a marginal rise in cutoffs, which was evident during the admissions held over the last two days.
"This year, Cotton University admission was held much earlier compared to the previous years. As a result, many students who may have been eyeing seats in Delhi University-affiliated colleges have taken admission here as there is no assurance of seats in the leading colleges of Delhi. We believe that this is a factor behind the rise in cut-offs on an average," he said.
Traditionally, chemistry and Physics have recorded high cut-off scores in Cotton University.
Around 4,800 students applied for various BSc and BA major courses in Cotton University this year.
For the BSc programmes, the university received about 1900 applications.
Now, all eyes are on two-day BA major admissions that is scheduled to begin at CU from Thursday to fill up 470 seats in various undergraduate courses in arts.
