AGARTALA: The Border Security Force (BSF) has proposed to install laser technology along the India-Bangladesh border fence in Tripura to check unlawful activities, officials said on Monday.
The BSF has been facing multiple challenges to manage the border following increasing incidences of cross-border crime, infiltration and smuggling activities despite having a wire fencing of over 90% in the state, which prompted the force to take help of technology.

This innovative technique has been identified as the most effective way to meet border management difficulties that BSF jawans confront due to adverse terrain. The laser shield technology, which has an innovative touch-sensitive system, raises an alarm if anyone tries to breach the fence through any part of the border, an official said.
“Once the technology is in place, it will become easier for us to keep a watch on the borders despite hostile weather,” said a BSF official, adding that a trial-based exercise has been started on the project in Jammu and Assam’s Dhubri.
Appreciating the border management efforts of the central government, Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb stated that his government has been giving highest priority to fencing along the India-Bangladesh border of the state.
