GUWAHATI: Citizens are having a tough time commuting daily after hundreds of city buses have been taken away on
election duty to the neighbouring states. More than 300 city buses are away on election duty in
Nagaland at the moment. Though more than 1200 buses are registered with the district transport office in Guwahati, not all of them are in a functioning condition. A top official of the transport department said the commuter woes will continue till the last week of February.
"As I normally use city buses to go to my office, this sudden decrease in number of buses has put people like me in deep crisis. For the last several days, I had to struggle to sufficient spaces even to stand on the buses I boarded," said Basanta Kalita, a resident of Bharalumukh.
