GUWAHATI: Police on Wednesday filed an FIR against a Gauhati University research scholar for a two-year-old Facebook post to celebrate the "joy of Pakistan" and "endorsing" the consumption of beef.
In June 2017, the scholar, Rehna Sultana, had posted: "To submerge into the joy of Pakistan, we also gorged on beef. What I eat depends on the likings of my taste buds. Don't reveal your identity by triggering off a controversy after hearing about beef." After being trolled incessantly, she had apologized and taken the post down.
Over the last couple of days, the post went viral again.
"An FIR has been lodged at Jalukbari police station here by the officer in charge of the outpost under the IT Act. Investigation is on," a police source said.
An investigating officer said her phone has been switched off. "We got a complaint on Tuesday night. We are investigating the matter. She has been identified as a junior research fellow at Gauhati University. Search is on to locate her," Guwahati police commissioner Deepak Kumar added.
Rehna hails from Boko in Kamrup district. Over the past fortnight, she had been busy helping Muslims who had been summoned for NRC hearings the following day at centres located hundreds of kilometres away.
