GUWAHATI: Condemning the assault on BJP’s Tinsukia district’s president Lakheswar Moran by a section of protestors against Citizenship Amendment Bill on Wednesday, saffron party’s state president Ranjit Kumar Dass warned agitators “not to cross Laxman Rekha”.
“We don’t have any problem if someone protests with black flags or going nudes. But if someone does like it was done in case of our Tinsukia district president, our 29 lakh karyakartas (workers) will not remain silent.
We do not want anyone to cross the Laxman Rekha,” Dass said on Wednesday.
Dass said that the way Moran was manhandled by protestors cannot be termed as a democratic movement.
Moran was attacked by protestors carrying black flags when he was on his way to attend a meeting organised by RSS-affiliated Lok Jagran Manch in Tinsukia.
Demanding the state government to take strong actions against those involved in attacking Moran, Dass said that a team from the BJP will visit Tinsukia district on Thursday to press the administration to find out the perpetrators of the attack soon.
“Our workers cannot sit idle if such kind of manhandling continues in the name of protest. FIR has already been filed and we want that the perpetrators are booked promptly,” Dass said.

He said that some of the protestors also tried to create violence during the protest in Nalbari district on Sunday when chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other ministers were on their way to a venue to lay the foundation stone of Nalbari Medical College.
On Tuesday Dass blamed local Congress members of infiltrating the protest called by All Assam Student Union to create disturbance in Nalbari. He said that BJP has collected photographs in which local Congress members were identified involved in creating disturbances during the protest called by AASU in Nalbari.
The protest resulted into scuffle with BJP members and police had to baton charge the protestors to bring the situation under control. Some of the protestors also pelted stones. AASU alleged that some BJP members also attacked protestors who were later detained by police
