GUWAHATI: A Lakhimpur woman, who was at the receiving end of daily domestic abuse, beheaded her husband and walked down to the Dholpur police station carrying his severed head on Tuesday night. The woman, identified as Guneswari Borkotoky, surrendered before police, admitting that she was being regularly abused by her alcoholic husband and she killed him in a fit of rage.

"Mu husband always came back home in an inebriated state and assaulted me. I had no other choice other than to kill him," Guneswari said.
Police said that on Tuesday night, the woman's husband, Mudhiram Borkotoky, had repeatedly abused and attacked her. Guneswari then lost all her temper and killed him with a machete. "Later she wrapped up the severed head in a plastic bag and walked five kilometres to the Dholpur police station," Lakhimpur Police added.
48-year-old Guneswari, a mother of five children, said, "He (the husband) often used to come home drunk and abused me. I had been putting up with this for years. On Tuesday night as well, he came home drunk and tried to kill me, so I had to retaliate. If I did not kill him, he would have killed me."
On Wednesday, a local court sent Guneswari to judicial custody.
The incident was similar to a case in 2011 when one Ranjit Das from the city's Japorigog area had beheaded his wife Amiya Daimary Das over suspicion of the latter having an extramarital affair. Das, after beheading his wife, had carried her severed head through the city streets before he was stopped by a group of security personnel.
