GUWAHATI: The National Examination Board (NEB),
Nepal, will make a foray into Assam to adopt the best examination and administrative practices that are being followed by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) for conducting the Class XII
state board exam.
NEB has reached out to the AHSEC in this regard and a team of experts from the Nepal board is set to visit Assam shortly to perceive the examination system endorsed for conducting Class XII state board examination.
"NEB of Nepal has expressed willingness to send their expert team to Assam in order to explore our examination system which we believe is one of the most efficient examination systems in India. The team from Nepal board will study AHSEC's administrative as well as confidential system for smooth and efficient conduct of examinations. We are in constant touch with their officials," AHSEC secretary Kamal Jyoti Gogoi told TOI on Monday.
Gogoi said that security, cyber intelligence and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) will be the key areas where AHSEC will assist the Nepal board to bring more reforms in their education system.
He said that the NEB officials are very much interested to adopt the best practices from the AHSEC, after the formerly witnessed glimpses of the examination system followed in Assam Class XII boards during the meeting of the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) held in Guwahati last year. The meet was also attended by representatives of the member education boards from Bhutan, Nepal, Singapore and International Board.
"Confidentiality and enhanced security measures have become very important aspects to protect the sanctity of examinations. In AHSEC, we can confidently say that malpractices have been checked to a great extent. Question paper leakage through WhatsApp, which was frequently happening in the yesteryears have been checked in the Class XII boards in Assam this year. Installation of mobile phone jammers in sensitive exam centres have been a great success in preventing the use of mobile phones for cheating in the exam halls," he asserted.
Gogoi added that AHSEC is credited with the achievement of evolving the mechanism of distributing the original mark sheets among the board examinees on the day of declaration of the boards' results - a feat which even the CBSE could not accomplish. "We are leading from the front, as far as quick evaluation of answer scripts is concerned. Immediately after the conclusion of the initial papers, AHSEC starts evaluation of the answer scripts. We never wait to the end of all the papers to start the evaluation process. This helped us in better time management," he added.
