GUWAHATI: Online process for receiving applications for five-year integrated BA LLB (honours), BA LLB and LLB courses at the University Law College in Gauhati University (GU) began on Monday.
A notification issued by the institute stated that June 21 has been fixed as the last date of receiving the online forms. While the entrance test for admission to BA LLB (honours) and BA LLB courses will be held on July 4, entrance exam for the LLB programme is scheduled on July 5.
The provisional selection list of the candidates will be published on July 15.
On the other hand, the provisional admission for BA LLB (honours) and BA LLB courses will be held on July 17. Provisional admission to the LLB course will be held on July 18.
University Law College principal Jyoti Prasad Bora said the independent employability option after completing law education is attracting young aspirants towards the five-year integrated programmes - BA LLB (honours) and BA LLB - that were introduced at the institute almost a decade ago. The LLB course offered by the premier law institute of the state has been popular in University Law College since inception. In LLB, admission will be held for 120 seats, while for the BA LLB (honours) and BA LLB programmes, the intake capacity in the institute is 60. The entrance tests will be held on OMR sheet with multiple choice questions.
For the general category students, the eligibility criterion to appear in the entrance exams for the three programmes is 45 percent mark in the last qualifying exam. Besides, five percent relaxation will be there for the reserved category seats, as per the government rules.
"We received quite good response from the students last year. Against 120 LLB seats, we received 350 to 400 applications in the previous years. For the integrated BA LLB (honours) and BA LLB courses, the response has been even more encouraging. Of late, we received 400 to 500 applications against the 60 seats allotted for BA LLB (honours) and BA LLB courses," said Bora.
