Retired teacher arrested for Guwahati blast

Police on Sunday arrested one Prakash Rajkonwar, alias Chao Naam Ti Lao (65), from the Milan Nagar area of Dibrugarh town in connection with the May 15 grenade blast in Guwahati in which 12 people, including two SSB personnel, were injured.

DIBRUGARH: Police on Sunday arrested one Prakash Rajkonwar, alias Chao Naam Ti Lao (65), from the Milan Nagar area of Dibrugarh town in connection with the May 15 grenade blast in Guwahati in which 12 people, including two SSB personnel, were injured.
Rajkonwar, who originally hails from the Dirak gate area of Tinsukia district, had earlier retired as a teacher from Dirak Primary School.
He was arrested from a rented accommodation - a house owned by one Sundar Rajkonwar - where Prakash had been staying for the last two years. Police have seized one computer and four mobile handsets from the house.
Although police refused to share details, they revealed that Prakash was in close contact with the Guwahati blast accused and used to stay with them during his visit there. He is currently being taken to Guwahati by a city police team.
Police have so far arrested eight people in connection with the blast. They are Prakash Rajkonwar, pro-talks Ulfa leader Pranamoy Rajguru, Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia, former Gauhati University Post Graduate Students' Union president Sanjib Talukdar, Chinmoy Lahkar, Amit Ballav Goswami, Indra Mohan Bora and Bijoy Asom.
Asom, who is a senior Ulfa-I leader and a prime accused in the case, was arrested from Tinsukia on May 21.
