GUWAHATI: Apprehensive of any form of black flag protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill at a rally that was to be addressed by
Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal in
Biswanath district on Tuesday,
security personnel allegedly forced a woman to remove a black jacket her three-year-old son was wearing. This despite the day being windy and the temperature hovering around 13°C.
Sonowal was scheduled to address a public rally at Behali and lay the foundation stone of the Eri Spun Silk Mill.
Over the past few weeks, he and other BJP ministers have been facing black flag protests at most public events.
In a video that went viral, several others making their way to the rally can be seen removing their black clothing. Sonowal ordered an inquiry into the incident after the video was broadcast on TV.
BJP state president Ranjeet Dass said the government has not issued any such instructions to police. " There can't be any restrictions on people wearing black clothes. I don't know why police are doing it. There is no such instruction either from government or the party," he said.
The police denied any such action. "This is a false report. We have taken the statement of the woman and she said her son was feeling hot and she had to take off his jacket," Biswanath SP Rakesh Roshan told TOI.
