Security stepped up at Guwahati railway station for Independence day

GUWAHATI : The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has made arrangements for a multi-layer security arrangement at the Guwahati railway station to foil any potential security threats on Independence Day.
The Guwahati railway station is the biggest in the entire northeast region. It experiences a footfall of 40,000 passengers and more than 60 trains pass through the station daily. Like every year, many militant outfits across the region have called for a boycott of Independence Day celebrations.
PJ Sharma, the chief public relations officer of NRF, said, "A quick reaction team, comprising 13 fully-armed personnel of the Railway Protection Special Force and 26 personnel from the Railway Protection Force, have been put on shift duty at the Guwahati railway station.In addition to it, at least 30 government railway police personnel and 10 CRPF jawans are also on duty."
Sharma said security forces are also involved in area domination exercises in the main concourse area, main entrance, Paltan Bazar gate, reservation halls, foot over bridge and platforms to ensure effective access control. Separate entrance and exit points have been formed to regulate the crowd. The main concourse area has also been barricaded, the CPRO added.
Sniffer dogs have also been deployed in three shifts and random frisking of passengers are also being carried out. CCTV cameras are being used to monitor 'vulnerable' areas and instructions have been issued to concerned departments to frequently check dustbins, cloakrooms, parcels and the parking area, Sharma said.
