Tripura saw crime rate rise between April and November last year

AGARTALA: There has been a sharp spike in the rate of crimes in Tripura in recent times, with official records revealing that 5,663 cases were registered across different police stations between April and November last year. Only 3,894 cases were registered in the state during that period in 2017.
About 62,936kg of cannabis, 1,83,247 bottles of banned cough syrups, 2,36,296 addictive tablets and 3,058 grams of heroine were seized by police between April and November in 2018.Cases of women going missing or being abducted also rose in number — 125 such cases were recorded during April and November last year, while 81 had been recorded during that corresponding period in 2017.
A comparison between data gathered during this period for the last two consecutive years also indicate a sharp increase in miscellaneous cases under the IPC — the number went up from 584 to 1,027 while the number of non-IPC cases also rose from 155 to 593.
Law minister Ratan Lal Nath, however, claimed that the rate of conviction increased from 27.23% to 28.60% for cases under the IPC and from 30.30% to 61.63% for non-IPC cases during the period.
Data also shows murder cases rose from 116 to 124 and car accident cases also increased from 451 to 496.
