AIZAWL: The
Mizoram unit of BJP on Tuesday said they may dissolve the state unit if party national leaders insist on the passage of the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 in the
Rajya Sabha.
Addressing a press conference in Aizawl, BJP state unit head J V Hluna said they would not hesitate to dissolve the party unit if the legislation is passed in Parliament. "The BJP Mizoram Pradesh was formed to safeguard the identity and culture of the
Mizo people," Hluna said and added that if party leaders at the national level impose the legislation on the people against their wishes, they would have no choice but to ensure the BJP does not exist in the state.
He said the state BJP unit had repeatedly appealed to central leaders not to pass the bill or to leave out Mizoram and the northeastern states from its ambit. The state BJP chief said Afghanistan and Pakistan occupy the second and fifth positions in the World Watch List in terms of religious persecution and
Bangladesh is in 48th position as there is no religious persecution against Buddhists there. "Including Bangladesh in the list where religious persecution existed and from where people fled to take shelter, is not justified," said Hluna.
The state unit appealed to all churches to hold mass prayers to defeat the bill.
