GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police on Monday exhumed the body of Sushmita Rajbongshi Khan after a local court here directed the police to investigate the cause of her death.
The body of the deceased, which was reportedly buried on July 27, was exhumed for autopsy after her family members moved the court suspecting a foul play by her husband and in-laws.
Based on the complaint lodged by the deceased's family, Hatigaon Police had detained her husband Jewel Khan.
However, managed to give police the slip on July 31. He has been on the run since then.
Nabaneet Mahanta, additional deputy commissioner of police (East Zone), said, "All procedures were followed to exhume her body from the Sijubari kabarstan and the body was sent for post mortem."
Countering charges of Sushmita's family, Jewel's family members alleged that she died of Japanese Encephalitis.
