2 suffer burns in fire mishap at petrol pump in Mallapur
Hyderabad: Two workers suffered burns when a fire mishap occurred at a fuel station in Mallapur on Friday morning. The condition of one of the workers is critical, as he suffered over 50% burns.
According to Nacharam police, the mishap occurred at Shell fuel filling station.
“The management of the filling station has renovated the premises. They were planning to re-open the station on Saturday.
Before the opening, technicians were testing the fuel lines that connected the underground storage unit to the dispensing units, when the mishap occurred,” said Nacharam inspector M Mahesh.
When the two technicians, K Ganesh and Dasu, were checking for leakage in the fuel pipes, flames suddenly engulfed the station and they both suffered burn injuries.
At the time of mishap, there were about 10,000 litres of fuel in the underground storage.
However, the other staff quickly put out the flames preventing any major damage, the inspector said.
Ganesh suffered 50% burns and Dasu suffered 25% burns. They were admitted to a nearby hospital. Ganesh’s condition is critical, said the inspector.
Police booked a negligence case against the filling station management.
