HYDERABAD: Parts of the city witnessed light showers on Thursday evening bringing relief from a warm weather with mercury hovering between five to six degrees Celsius above normal in the past few days.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society, areas such as Banjara Hills, Madhapur, Pashamylaram, BHEL Factory in Serilingampally, Kandi, Patancheruvu, Balanagar, Gachibowli located in and around Hyderabad received light to moderate rainfall.

Rains brought down the maximum temperature to normal at 28.7 degrees Celsius. Whereas, the minimum temperature was recorded 19.8 degrees Celsius, which was five degrees Celsius above normal.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad has attributed the sudden change in weather conditions to a well-marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal which intensified into a depression.
“It is very likely to intensify further into a deep depression in next 12 hours and into a cyclonic storm during subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move northwestwards towards Andhra Pradesh & adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts during the next 72 hours,” read the report issued by IMD, Hyderabad.
Meteorologists also attribute the sudden showers to an upper air cyclonic circulation over north interior Karnataka and neighbourhood and a trough which runs from south Chhattisgarh across Telangana and Vidarbha.
Meteorologists forecast that light to moderate rains or thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places across Telangana on December 16 and December 17.
