HYDERABAD: Even as senior officials are busy making arrangements for the foundation stone laying ceremony at Irrum Manzil on June 27, it is reliably learnt that the state government has decided to rope in top-notch architects to design the new legislative assembly and council buildings coming up at Irrum Manzil.
Highly-placed sources in the roads and buildings department told TOI that the government is keen to take the assistance of architects to prepare the best designs.
Though there is no clarity on the designs, sources said chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s plan is to keep the elevation of the new assembly and council hall look like the present assembly close to Public Gardens.
“The CM wants blocks inside the new assembly on the lines of those existing in the parliament complex in Delhi. He is keen to have a central hall and the idea is to accommodate both MLAs and MLCs in one hall during major events,” sources said.
“Whenever the governor addresses both the houses during sessions or the CM wants to make a presentation on an important topic, a common central hall will serve the need,” a senior R&B official told TOI.
There are four different stages to be followed for constructing the new assembly and council hall that include preparation of conceptional designs, estimation as per the designs, float tenders and execution of works. To complete this process, it will take at least six months. “Construction of the assembly and council hall will be completed within one-and-a-half years from the date of agreement with the bidder concerned,” said an official.

Asked about the noise being made over pulling down the Irrum Manzil palace, officials said it would be razed. “Heritage activists and conservationists may object to this. But, we cannot have new structures if they keep creating problems,” they said.
Meanwhile, the R&B officials on Monday said the chief minister would lay the stone at 12 pm on Thursday in the back side of the Irrum Manzil palace.
