Dog carcass on Kukatpally road, poisoning suspected

HYDERABAD: In what is termed as still another horrific case of animal cruelty, a dog of Indian breed was found dead with its hind legs tied and allegedly poisoned by residents of Alwyn colony at Kukatpally.
The incident came to light on Saturday, after a local resident and a Community Animal Protector (CAP) from People for Animals (PFA), an animal welfare organisation spotted the carcass dumped on the road and alerted activists.“The very image of the animal lying in that state was heart breaking. I don’t understand why some people are so cruel to animals. I think it is important that city police take action against these people and constantly monitor their actions as they can go ahead and commit bigger crimes,” said Ravikanth Chowdhary, an animal activist.
PFA, the organisation which works towards mobilising and training citizens to rescue injured animals and creating awareness programmes, says that in spite of their efforts, such brutality has been on the rise across the city. Volunteers in Kukatpally say there are signs of abuses and torture on many dogs in the area.
Dattatreya Joshi, chief executive officer, PFA, said, “we will fight till the accused in such cases are punished.”
In similar incidents in July this year, four Indianbreed dogs were found dead with their legs tied with wires and a pet dog was allegedly poisoned by residents of Annaram at Medak district in a span of two days.
