It’s game, set, match for love birds Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap, who finally became man and wife
after over a decade-long courtship. The Hyderabad-based shuttlers tied the knot in a register marriage held at Saina’s residence on Friday. The close-knit affair saw the presence of around 20-25 of their friends and family members.

A source close to the couple said, “The wedding happened at the community club of Saina’s Gachibowli residence.The couple had invited the registrar officials to the venue itself. It was a private affair with only very close friends and family in attendance. Both Saina and Kashyap looked extremely happy, as they held hands and posed for pictures by the poolside. It was a cosy do, just like what she always dreamt of.” The wedding was followed by a small puja, in North Indian style.
Soon after the wedding, Saina took to social media and posted a few pictures with the caption: ‘Best match of my life...#justmarried’ taking social media by storm. In no time, #MatchOfTheYear became one of the most trending hashtags of the day. Guru Sai Dutt and HS Prannoy turn groomsmen for Kashyap.
On Saturday evening, the couple hosted a cocktail party for their friends from the badminton circuit at a plush pub in Gachibowli. While Saina looked lovely in a dreamy gown, Kashyap chose to go dapper in a sharp suit. Badminton players and besties of the couple, Guru Sai Dutt and HS Prannoy were the ‘best men’ for Kashyap. An elated Guru said, “Well, Kashyap is more like a brother than a friend and I am very happy for them both. It’s been 13-14 years that they have been seeing each other. I would always tell them, ‘How do you guys manage to stay in a relationship for so long?’ and bug them with questions like ‘When will you get married?’. Now that they are finally a married couple, it feels so good! Their journey has been so beautiful and I wish them the best.”
It’s going to be a star-studded affair
On Sunday night, Saina-Kashyap will have a gala wedding reception at a star hotel in Hyderabad, which will be attended by a host of Bollywood stars and sports icons. MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar are among the biggies who will attend from the sporting fraternity, while Bollywood and Tollywood stars will also make their presence felt. Post the reception, a small ceremony with South Indian rituals will also take place.
Saina is one excited bride: Stylist
Talking about the looks Saina picked for the D Day, stylist Shravya Varma says, “Both Saina and Kashyap are sports personalities, not film stars. So the whole look was planned keeping that in mind. Comfort was key for them, so that was the thumb rule while choosing their attires for the reception. Since the wedding itself was a simple registered marriage, we thought of giving them the whole big Indian wedding feel at the reception. So, we went for a lehenga and sherwani look for the couple. While Saina will don a navy-blue lehenga coupled with exquisite jewellery which will be a mix of gold, kundan and jadao, Kashyap will complement his bride in a blue sherwani. Saina seems to have loved the whole experience of picking, choosing and putting the look together. She was every bit the excited bride and at the trials, she loved everything so much that she wanted to don all the looks. Finally, she zeroed in on the midnight blue look.”
