Hyderabad: 16-year-old rams car into auto, kills baby

A 14-month-old baby boy died and his grandmother suffered critical injuries after a four-wheeler, driven by a 16-year-old boy, ploughed into their autorickshaw and two-wheelers at Bowenpally on Sunday. The minor, who was driving his father's car, was booked for culpable homicide along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

HYDERABAD: A 14-month-old baby boy died and his grandmother suffered critical injuries after a four-wheeler, driven by a 16-year-old boy, ploughed into their autorickshaw and two-wheelers at Bowenpally on Sunday. The minor, who was driving his father's car, was booked for culpable homicide along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Around 3.30pm, Mahadev, a 14-month-old boy along with his twin, Madav, mother Sandhya Kiran and grandmother Nagamani were travelling from Kukatpally towards Yapral in an auto, police said.
The family was on their way to a relative's house for the weekend.
"The 16-year-old boy was driving a Maruthi 'S' Cross from Indira Nagar towards Dairy Farm Crossroads. He was driving rash and went on to hit the auto in which Mahadev and his family were travelling. The underage driver then hit a scooter and a bike, which were behind the auto," Bowenpally inspector P Chandra Shekhar said.
Mahadev, who was in his mother's lap, along with his twin brother fell and sustained severe head injury due to the impact. His grandmother Nagamani, who sustained severe injuries, was shifted to hospital and was said to be in a critical condition. Mahadev, son of a businessman, succumbed while undergoing treatment at Russh Hospital, police added.
"The auto driver sustained bleeding injuries. The baby's mother and two victims riding two-wheelers sustained minor injuries in the accident. The underage driver fled abandoning the car at the spot, which has been seized," the inspector added.
It was found that the minor, a resident of Alwal, was driving his father's car. "The accused person's car was also heavily damaged due to the impact. The accused is currently absconding," the inspector added.
After the incident, the underage driver and his father have been booked under Section 304 (II) (culpable homicide), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 326 (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
