In a city that’s distinctively known for its delicious cuisine, an evening of food, drink and conversation is bound to be memorable. And that’s exactly what happened on Monday, at the Times Food and Nightlife Awards 2018. Hyderabad’s swish set, from T’wood celebrities and models to socialites and biz honchos, and not to forget, food experts, restaurateurs and foodies, cametogether for the glittery awards night to witness the launch of the revamped Times Food & Nightlife Guide 2018 and of course, sample all that amazing, award-winning food.
Needless to say, they were spoilt for choice.
Held at Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre — the flagship brand of AccorHotels, the world’s leading hotel operator and market leader in Europe — the night was presided over by actress Shriya Saran, who was the chief guest at the showpiece event. Unveiling the book in its bigger, better, brand new avatar, Shriya, who is a self-confessed foodie said, “Having lived in Hyderabad for so long, food has become an important part of my life. Obviously, I love the biryani here, which is absolutely amazing. But over the years, I have watched Hyderabad grow into this bustling food capital which has more than just its famed biryani and haleem to offer. It has transformed into a vibrant city for food and nightlife. Every time I am here, I hear of a new ‘must-try’ place. For a foodie like myself, that’s always great news! This is the city for foodies!”
Author Sankalp Vishnu, who put the guide together, was singled out for special praise.
As the evening proceeded, guests were kept entertained right through, thanks to emcee Anuj Gurwara and his witty repartee. From Hyderabad’s brand new metro Rail to Hyderabadis’ infamous tardiness, Anuj had a joke to crack about everything. The presence of young, peppy stars like Charmme, Isha Talwar, Aadarsh Balakrishna, Navdeep, Prince, Ananya Soni and Indian Idols Revanth and Sreerama Chandra added to the fun quotient of the evening.
Soon, it was down to business, as the best in the food business in 44 categories were feted. This year the ‘Best Telangana Cuisine’ category was in association with Telangana Tourism.
Following the awards ceremony, it was time to tuck in to the award-winning cuisines. From traditional favourites like biryani, kebabs and haleem to sushi, fusion food and even organic delights — there was plenty on offer and the foodies had a gala time.
The Times Food and Nightlife Awards, Hyderabad, 2018 was presented in association with Swiggy, India’s largest food ordering and delivery platform, and Diageo — Johnie Walker the Journey that has told stories of personal progress.
