HYDERABAD: Eminent Gandhian and Bhoodan Movement leader
Manikonda Bhupathi Rao was honoured by India Post,
Telangana circle, by releasing a special postal cover at the ongoing Telangana Philatelic Exhibition-2018 (Telanganapex) at Visvesvaraya Bhavan here on Saturday.
Chief postmaster general, Telangana circle, Brigadier Chandrasekhar and PMG, headquarters, Hyderabad, Radhika Chakravarthy and Veda Kumar, fourth son of late Bhupathi Rao, released the special cover.
Rao played a significant role in the library movement and set up a lot of libraries in erstwhile
Medak district (presently
Siddipet district) to educate people on honing the skills of reading, writing and speaking in Hindi.
“Appreciating his services and dedication to enrich the lives of poor people, it’s our duty to honour him by releasing a special cover,” said Brig Chandrasekar. His son Narasinga Rao is Telugu film producer and director, who brought laurels to Telugu cinema in the international arena. He also released a special cover on metallic industries in Sanathnagar in 1969.
