Meghalaya judge’s Hindu nation remark irks Asaduddin Owaisi

HYDERABAD: Days after a judge of Meghalaya high court said that India should have been declared a Hindu nation at the time of Partition, MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that the observation by Justice SR Sen was unacceptable to Muslims.
“Justice Saab, your judgment is wrong. You cannot pass such a judgment after taking oath on the Constitution. India will never become an Islamic country.
India is plural and secular and it will remain in future,” Asad said.
While disposing of a petition filed by one Amon Rana, who was denied domicile certificate by the state government, Justice Sen, the lone judge at the Meghalaya HC on Monday, said, since the country was divided on religion lines and Pakistan became an Islamic country, India should have declared itself as Hindu nation, but did not do so.
Speaking at a victory meeting after midnight, Owaisi said, “What kind of justice is this? Will the government take notice? MIM doesn’t accept this judgment. You should interpret the Constitution, don’t beg Modi,” said Owaisi.
During the meeting, the parliamentarian’s focus was on the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and also expressed disappointment on polling percentage in Old City. Promoting the agenda of BJP and Congress-mukt country, proposed by Telangana chief minster K Chandrashekhar Rao, he urged people to come out and vote even if Parliament polls are conducted during Ramzan.
“If people are united in the same way as they were during assembly polls, BJP and Congress will not even win one of the 17 seats in the parliamentary poll,” said Owaisi.

The MIM chief continued his attack on Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AP CM Chandrababu Naidu, while showering praise on K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Naming national leaders who were star campaigners for BJP and Congress, he said all of them wanted to divide Muslims. “Their aim is to split Muslims in Telangana and Hyderabad into Shias and Sunnis and create differences and instigate a fight,” said the MIM chief.
He alleged that TDP leaders were using money to influence voters. “The party mortgaged the candidate’s house (Prajakutami candidate from TDP), contesting from Malakpet to defeat MIM,” Asad said. He also criticised Telangana Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy. “He (Reddy) booked 40 rooms in Park Hyatt and also declared he will take oath as CM on 12th at Raj Bhavan,” Owaisi said.
