Scared by the massive crowd, Emraan Hashmi leaves city mall without stepping out of his car
Chaos? Mayhem? We don't have exact words to describe the ambience inside a mall at Tolichowki on Saturday evening. Word-of-mouth spreads like wildfire, we thought looking up at the four floors above us brimming with fans of Emraan Hashmi. After elbowing our way through the crowd inside the barricaded place reserved for the guests, we heaved a sigh of relief.
Hundreds of people from across Hyderabad poured into the mall, waiting for the arrival of Emraan Hashmi, who was supposed to attend a showroom launch in the mall, along with badminton star Saina Nehwal and actress Rhea Chakraborty.
“Please don't lean on the railings,” the organiser requested earnestly over the mike. The request fell on deaf ears, as the crowd kept swelling every minute. The bouncers tried to bring things under control, but in vain! Every time a person walked in through the entrance, there was a deafening noise from the fans, expecting him to be the Azhar star.
It was only a matter of time until crowd poured in the reserved area and occupied the makeshift dias. Around 8.30 pm it was announced that the actor had arrived, but he never came inside. After numerous announcements to move away from the dias, and half an hour of blaring noise, we found out that the actor stayed away thanks to the unruly nature of the crowd.
When we caught up with the organiser, he said, “Emraan arrived at around 8.30 pm, but he couldn’t even step outside. Fans were there waiting for him, right outside the entrance. The moment his car arrived, they threw themselves upon the car and started clicking pictures and selfies with the actor inside the car. Even with 100 bouncers it was impossible to manage the fans. So he had to leave after waiting for around half an hour outside the mall.”
The crowd was something neither the organisers nor the mall authorities were expecting. The organiser said, “We did not expect such a huge crowd. Looks like people from all over Hyderabad came to see him. Emraan thought of coming back if the crowd leaves, but it took quite a long time for the people to disperse. Even after he went away, people kept asking whether he is going to come back. They were not ready to leave without seeing him in person,” the organiser added.
