Hyderabad: Stop recruitment process, SC/ST panel tells JNTUH
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: After complaints were raised by students alleging that Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH) authorities were not following the roster of reservation (RoR) while recruiting professors, the Telangana SC/ST commission on Monday directed the varsity officials to stop the recruitment process.
The commission also requested the state to issue necessary instructions directing the varsity authorities to strictly implement the rule of reservation.

“Government should issue necessary instructions to the university authorities to implement the rule of reservation for the posts notified by JNTUH duly following the guidelines issued in the Andhra Pradesh regulation of reservations for appointments in Public Services Act 1997, Act no. 24 of 1997 (adopted by Government of Telangana) and also the circular instructions issued by the state to enable genuine SC/ST candidates for professor posts,” read the notice issued by the commission to secretary of education department, Government of Telangana.
The varsity, in March, issued a notification for the recruitment of 32 professor posts. However, they allegedly failed to follow the rules of reservation while issuing the notification and during the interview process. However, two students approached the commission against the notification.“Among 32 professor posts, at least five should be reserved for SC, ST, and other candidates. However, JNTUH officials did not even bother to follow the RoR and called general candidates for interviews to fill these positions,” said Dileep J, one of the petitioner who filed the complaint with the Telangana State Commission for SCs and STs.
He alleged that university officials claimed that the RoR is not applicable to these posts as the state has not issued any GO to the effect and added that they cannot follow the same till the state government takes a policy decision.
The students said that as per the rules, the Vice-Chancellor is not supposed to recruit six months before the end of his tenure. The university officials, on the other hand, rebutted the claim and said that the recruitment process started in 2013. The officials said that they would now wait for the government to respond on the issue and would take a decision accordingly.
