HYDERABAD: Much like Karnataka minister
HD Revanna faced severe criticism after video showing him throwing food packets to flood-hit victims in Ramanathapura in Karnataka went viral in August this year, some MIM leaders and supporters are facing all-round flak for throwing sweets at a gathering of people on Thursday.
Aides of Ahmed Pasha Quadri, Yakutpura MLA, distributed 1,000kg of sweets to celebrate the party’s victory in elections.
As crowds began to swell, the organisers started throwing sweets towards them, who jostled with one another to catch the packets. In the melee, some of them fell down. The video of sweet distribution went viral on Saturday. “Absolutely, it’s an insult,” tweeted Harish Daga. Speaking to STOI, he said leaders should have distributed the sweets instead of throwing them into the crowds.
“Really disappointing to see this. This is not the way to treat the supporters. Hope @asadowaisi sb also disagrees with this behaviour,” tweeted Mohammed Zaid.
Speaking to STOI, Quadri said it was wrong on the part of the organisers to throw sweets at people. “Throwing sweets is completely wrong. I personally distributed some sweet packets and left,” recalled Quadri.
Two others, however, did not see any wrong. “It’s typical Hyd cultural celebration. Rest it’s moment of joy. Chill!!!,” tweeted Shoeb Ahmed Khan.
