HYDERABAD: Congress leader A Revanth Reddy who suffered a shocking defeat in the Telangana assembly elections from Kondangal, surrendered his police security on Tuesday night.
Based on petition filed by Revanth, the high court had directed the government to provide 4+4 security to Revanth Reddy till the counting is over on December 11. Though Revanth wanted the security personnel to be from Central Paramilitary units, as it was not possible for the state to provide the preferred personnel, he was finally provided with state police security with four gunmen guarding him at any given time along with an armed escort team.
The armed escort used to be priovided by the concerned district SP to follow Revanth Reddy during his election campaigning.

After the counting of votes was over on December 11, Revanth surrendered the security personnel. "Revanth returned the gunmen and escort team on Tuesday night on his own," Additional DG (L&O) Jitender said.
Revanth, who is the working president of Congress party and one of their star campaigners, suffered a surprise defeat in the elections. He lost to TRS party's Patnam Narendar Reddy with a margin of 9,319 votes.
