INDORE: Ahead of monsoon, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has identified 115 buildings in the city that are unsafe for living.
Civic body officials are in the process to shortlist the most dangerous buildings and have issued notices to the occupants.
Most of the buildings have been identified in Zone-1, 2, 3, 12 and 13. “About 10-25 buildings have been identified in each of these five zones,” said an official with IMC’s building permission cell.

The list includes both residential and commercial buildings, which are in need of immediate eviction. Owners of most of these buildings were already issued notices, but they are not willing to vacate. Some of them are also witnessing owner-tenant conflict.
Officials said that they are going to send fresh notices to occupants to vacate the buildings immediately. If residents don’t vacate the buildings in the given time period, IMC will disconnect water and electricity supply.
IMC additional commissioner Devendra Singh said that most of these buildings are very old and have not been renovated for a long time. Apart from regular maintenance, a structural audit is also mandatory for any building over a period of time, which has also been found to be not maintained by their respective owners.

“These buildings will be sorted in completely dangerous structures, partially dangerous structures, and structures with matter pending in the court, and action would be taken accordingly,” he said.
“We also plan to move court to seek permission for demolition of structures which are completely dangerous, and their cases are pending in court,” added Singh.
The civic body had last year identified 166 dangerous buildings in the city. However, action could be taken hardly against 20 per cent of them. Officials could not explain the delay and said that action could not be taken against these structures owing to cases pending in the court.
