8% rise in woman voter turnout in Indore

Women voters turned out in large numbers to cast their ballots in Indore for 2019 Lok Sabha polls, recording a jump of around 8 per cent from the last general election.

INDORE: Women voters turned out in large numbers to cast their ballots in Indore for 2019 Lok Sabha polls, recording a jump of around 8 per cent from the last general election.
In 2019, the turnout of women voters was 65.74 per cent as against 57.68 per cent recorded in 2014 in Indore Lok Sabha constituency, showed data of Election Commission.
The turnout was higher in rural areas of Indore where women were seen standing in long queues with children beating the heat.

Among the eight assembly segments, highest female voter turnout was recorded in Sanwer, Depalpur and Indore 4, EC data showed.
Overall voter turnout in Indore stood at 69.30 per cent, of which male voting percentage was 72.66 per cent, which was 9.52 per cent higher than female voting turnout, the data showed.
Anupama Yadav, working at a pharmaceutical firm said, “I had to travel over 5 km to cast my ballot because we shifted to a new rented space. Vote comes first and everything else can wait.”
The district administration had set up 619 all women managed polling booths in Indore to facilitate female voters. Women voter turnout has been rising continuously in Indore. In 2009 general election, female turnout was 43.44 per cent that rose to 57.68 per cent and 65.74 per cent in 2014 and 2019 respectively.
Elderly women also came in large numbers to cast their ballots.
In Ujjain Lok Sabha constituency, women turnout percentage jumped 11.33 per cent in 2019 to 71.38 per cent. In 2014, female turnout was 60.05 per cent. Alot assembly segment registered highest turnout of 75.07 per cent in Ujjain.
