INDORE: To quench the city’s thirst and ease water distribution, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is seeking an additional 57 mcm (million cubic meters) of water from the Narmada-Gambhir Link Project as emergency reserve. IMC is preparing a proposal in this regard to Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) for additional supply of Narmada water.
Official sources said that supply of around 35 mcm water for Yeshwant Sagar and 22 mcm water for Bilawali Lake would be sought from Narmada-Gambhir Link Project.

A decision in this regard was taken up in a joint meeting of IMC and NVDA officials on Monday.
“We hope to get supply of water from Narmada-Gambhir Link Project in September and October and from February to July. A proposal in this regard is being prepared and will be sent to NVDA for approval,” said Narmada Project official Sanjeev Shrivastava. Supply to western parts of city relies on Yeshwant Sagar and availability of additional supply would help IMC deal with shortage, especially during summers.
“The additional supply from this project would enhance water distribution system in city,” said officials.
Narmada-Gambhir Link Project is a part of state government’s ambitious river linking projects to increase groundwater level and decrease water scarcity issues in several parts of Malwa region. IMC has been holding talks with NVDA authorities for past few months demanding supply of water through Narmada-Gambhir Link Project to meet increasing demand of city.
